Top Ten Films of All Time

It’s safe to say that everybody loves a good movie every now and then. So I’m going to give you my top ten favourite films of all time. You may agree with me on some or completely disagree on all of them, but that’s the fun.

  1. Mamma Mia!

The first movie on my list and it’s the first of the musicals. Mamma Mia is one of those feel good mammamiafamily movies that we all know and love. It brings all the hits from the classic 70’s band ‘ABBA’, accompanied by a heart-warming story of a girl trying to find her father. I have to say it was very clever how they made the songs fit to the plot of the movie.

  1. Hairspray (2007 version)

hairsprayNow on to the second of the musicals. Hairspray gives you a sense of courage. It allows you to stick out from the crowd, but also makes you realise that everyone is the same, no matter the colour of their skin. It also gives you some really good toe tapping numbers. With stars such as John Travolta, this is a must see.

  1. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

indianajonesThis has to be the best out of the all of the Indiana Jones films, just because of two moments. These moments are “He chose … poorly” and “you have chosen… wisely”. Those words represent so much in the movie. It almost makes you feel like you are one of the people who has to choose the Holy Grail. When you are watching, you can’t help but agree with the person who chose poorly. You then realise and understand what is happening. It is very clever. I’ll insert a clip so you can also appreciate the greatness.

  1. Notting Hill

nottignhillIf you are in the mood for love and happiness, which I know isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, then this film will probably make you change your mind. Starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, this film is special. It is what you would expect from a classic rom-com but with so much more meaning and less cheese. There are certain parts to make you laugh and others to make you cry. This is an all-time classic.

  1. The Sixth Sensesixthsense

Without a doubt, this film has to have one of the biggest plot twists in movie history. When you watch this film for the first time you do not expect what you see at the end of the film. After watching for a second time you pick up the missing pieces and it is so obvious. It will make you feel stupid that you didn’t think of it. So if you are in the mood for some mind bending fun, I suggest this.

  1. The Silence of the Lambs

silenceofthelambsThis is simply one of my favourite horror/thrillers. This is because I get tense every time I watch it especially towards the end when Clarice is inside the house of Buffalo Bill. Even though I know exactly what happens at the end of the film, I still manage to get nervous. It has to be a very good film if after all these years I feel like I did when I first watched it.

  1. Titanictitanic

In my opinion, one of the saddest films and probably one of the only films where you know exactly how it is going to end. (Spoiler: the ship sinks). As well as this film being sad it also has a love story. Once you have seen this movie you’ll never let go. (Sorry for the pun).

  1. Love Actually

loveactuallyLove is written in the title and that is exactly what you do, love it. Although this film is set at Christmas and is classed as a Christmas film, it is an all timer. You can watch it all year round and not feel weird about it. Also, with the amount of amazing actors and actresses in this film, how could you not love it?

  1. Greasegrease

Grease is without a doubt my favourite musical of all time. I know every word to every song and I am not ashamed of that. There are worse things I could do than sit and watch Grease all the time but what can I say we go together like rama lama lama ka dinga da dinga dong. My only criticism, to this very day, is that I still do not understand the flying car at the end.

  1. Back to the Future

Finally for number 1. My favourite film is Back to the Future for many different reasons. Firstly who doesn’t love some 80’s nostalgia and time travel? This is not only the best film from the 80s, it is also the best time travel film ever. You cannot question this because you will simply be wrong. If for some very strange reason you have never seen Back to the Future, why are you reading this? Go and watch it now!

Now that I have seen La La Land, it is definitely one of my favourites as well.
