Society of the Week: Dumbledore’s Army

Every week, we’ll be talking to a different society from UoG, finding out everything you want to know about them. This week: Dumbledore’s Army.

We’re talking to Laura Noble, who’s been the president of the society for two years.

So what is Dumbledore’s Army?

Dumbledore’s Army is the Harry Potter society at the uni. And it’s lit. (Lumos maxima!)

What do you guys do?

We meet every Thursday and host a variety of events, like quizzes, craft nights, movie screenings – we even did an event at Smokey Joe’s where we all dressed up and it was decorated like Gryffindor common room.

Why do you love your society?

It’s inclusive and fun, everybody’s friendly. I really love Harry Potter so it’s nice to have a group of people to share that with. It’s also the kind of society where you can do a lot of different themed activities, not necessarily even massively about Potter. I think I’ve met most of my friends through the society so it’s quite important to me.

Why should people join?

It’s something different! We do tonnes of different stuff, and it’s a very low pressure society so it’s nothing to stress about. It’s a fun and calm environment, and we won’t judge anyone for how much or little they know about Harry Potter – everyone is welcome. It’s also on a Thursday so it’s the perfect pres for Props 😉

How can I get involved and what events do you have coming up?

You can get involved by joining our Facebook page, Dumbledore’s Army, or following us on Twitter @glosda. You could also just pop along to a social – most of the time they’re on Thursdays at 8:30pm at FCH SU bar.

This week we’re going to the karaoke night at the SU bar, and in the next few weeks we’ll be doing quizzes, film screenings, and plenty of other activities! We’re also hoping to run a trip to Gloucester Cathedral, where some of the filming took place.

If you want your society featured on UniVersal, email uognewspaper@gmail.com or tweet us @uognewspaper.
