Society of the Week: History

Every week, we’ll be talking to a different society from UoG, finding out everything you want to know about them.

This week we’re talking to the committee of the History society, headed by Georgina Norton.

What is History Society?

We are a group of students from across campus with some form of interest in History – be it big or small!

What do you guys do?

Mostly we hold fortnightly socials at the SU, where we play games and get to know each other but we often have non-drinking events like history related quizzes, “takeaway” socials and film nights for more chilled out fun. We have also started what we hope to be an annual tradition this year, where we held a Charity Night Social and raised over £80 for NSPCC with donated goods and prizes from local businesses. We also organise various trips throughout the year!

Why do you love your society?

History society at FCH SU bar

I love my society because it has been a chance to get to know others on my course I wouldn’t have necessarily have gotten to know under normal circumstances, particularly across year groups. We have also had the opportunity to befriend a lot of people from across campus and get a real friendship going with everyone. The activities and events we host are always super fun and unique too, but still with an element of chill for those who fancy a couple hours escape from a busy uni schedule.

Why should people join History Soc?

You should join us because it’s a great way to make new friends, learn new things and gain fab new experiences – from going out dressed as a significant historical figure, to exploring London or Amsterdam or even just chatting amongst new people!

How can I get involved and what events do you have coming up?

Get involved by joining our Facebook Group “UOG History Society 2017/18” to keep up with socials and upcoming plans!
